Your Next Date: Make It Eco-Friendly!

Your Next Date: Make It Eco-Friendly!

by | Energy Conservation

Going green, like any activity, is more enjoyable when done with that special someone. So if you’re looking for a few ways to spend time with your love while also embracing the environment, here are three green date ideas that are sure to romance your sweetie and show some affection for Mother Nature.

  1. Take a Hike: One of the best and most environmentally-friendly ways to spend an afternoon – on a date or otherwise – is to get outside and enjoy nature’s beauty. Go for a stroll along the beach, take a walk through the park or go for a hike on a nearby trail. Covering three miles while walking hand-in-hand is sure to raise your endorphins, without impacting your carbon footprint. If you drove the same distance, your vehicle would burn 2 kilograms of carbon dioxide and you would missed out on all that physical contact!
  2. Plan a Picnic: A few weeks ago on this blog, we gave you some ideas for throwing an eco-friendly picnic, which is a great green date idea worth sharing again. While cuddling up on your blanket in the park, keep these ground rules in mind: use non-disposables, leave no trash behind, choose local fare and once you leave, recycle as much as possible.
  3. Splish and Splash: While the weather is still warm, get out on the water with your main squeeze. Rent a kayak (a two-seater!), some stand-up paddleboards or take a quiet ride in a canoe. These recreational activities will not only get your blood pumping (in a good way, wink wink), but they also have little to no impact on the environment. On the other hand, a motorized boat trip or Jet Ski excursion could severely increase your carbon footprint – just one gallon of gas in your boat burns about 20 pounds of carbon dioxide. However, if you do want a slightly more thrilling aquatic experience, here is great Jet Ski alternative that also allows for an an eco-friendly afternoon on the water.
