What is Alectra Utilities?
Alectra Utilities is the largest municipally-owned electricity distributor in Canada. It’s a Canadian utility company serving one million homes and businesses across Ontario’s Greater Golden Horseshoe area.[1] A few of the 17 communities it serves include Alliston, Brampton, Markham, and Vaughan. The company was founded in 2017.[2]
As a utility company, Alectra manages the physical equipment that delivers power to your home. Ontario, Canada, is a partially deregulated energy market, so you can choose whether to use your area’s default Regulated Price Plan (RPP; set by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) or your energy needs or purchase energy from a retail energy provider (REP).
Alectra manages your billing for your RPP, but it doesn’t earn a profit from your electricity charge, only your delivery fee.

If you choose a plan from Just Energy, Alectra is still responsible for maintaining the transmission lines, poles, meters, and other equipment and infrastructure needed to ensure reliable service. When there’s a power outage, you must call Alectra.
Alectra may continue to manage your energy bills, but questions about your Just Energy contract or rates would be directed to Just Energy’s customer service.
