Grab a few during your next shopping trip, and using a knife or apple corer, remove the stem so that the hole that remains fits the base of a soy-based taper candle. You can also achieve this look with other small gourds. Continue to use the candle holders until you’re ready to begin Christmas or Hanukah holiday decorating, at which point you can add the pumpkins to your compost bin.
Fall Fruit Centerpieces:
Fill clear jars, vases and other containers with the fruits of fall, such as figs, peppercorns, apples, pomegranates and grapes for a beautiful autumn table centerpiece. The peppercorns will last for months, while the other items will start to turn (and also become compost fodder) a bit sooner.

Nut Wreaths:
Generally reserved for Christmastime, add a fall-themed wreath to your front door using earth-toned nuts and greenery fastened to a picture frame. Include small acorns and pinecones that have fallen from your trees for an all-natural DIY embellishment.
Owl Pinecone Crafts:
Get your kids in on the decorating and create these cute owl pinecone crafts to decorate their favorite spaces. Collect a few large pinecones from your garden, yard or at a nearby park and use other crafting scraps you already have at home for a very timely, kid-friendly, artsy activity.
Autumn Scent Simmer Pot:
So it’s not actually “decor,” but toss a few deliciously scented seasonal items into an energy-efficient crockpot to envelop your house in fall’s fragrance. Start by adding some water to your slow cooker, then mix in apple slices, cinnamon sticks, orange peels, vanilla and slices of butternut squash. Let it all come to a low, warm simmer for a green, all-natural, perfume party.
