Who Can Sign Up for Just Energy’s Solar Advantage Plan?

The Solar Advantage Plan is designed specifically for Texas homeowners looking to optimize their home solar setup. If your primary residence is located within a deregulated Texas market, you have solar panels, and you want to maximize the utility of your solar array, this fixed-rate plan is a great fit.

To ensure your home qualifies for the 6.0 ¢/kWh solar Buyback Credits under this plan, you must meet the following baseline requirements:

A Registered Solar Profile

Your home must have a fully executed Interconnection Agreement in place with your local Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP) and an official load profile with a “PV” designation.

The Right Metering Setup

You must have a TDSP-installed bi-directional meter that accurately and separately measures both the inflow and outflow of electricity to and from your home.

System Capacity Limits

Your grid-connected renewable generation equipment must have a maximum capacity of 25 kilowatts (kW) or less.

Who Is Not Eligible for This Plan?

As a dedicated, automatic generation credit structure, this plan can’t be combined with other parallel offers. If you’re currently participating in Just Energy’s Excess Generation Buy Back Program and enroll in the Solar Advantage plan, credits from these two don’t stack, which means you cannot earn new credits from both at the same time, but any unused credit already earned under either will continue to be applied to your active Just Energy account. Signing up for the Solar Advantage plan means you no longer be on the Excess Generation Buy Back Program.

Additionally, this plan is tailored for traditional solar generation and is not applicable to commercial properties or homes with out-of-market distributed generation systems.

More Sustainable Offerings: JustGreen

While the Solar Advantage plan helps you maximize your home’s generation, you can elevate your eco-responsible lifestyle even further with Just Energy’s JustGreen add-on.

If you want to ensure that 100% of the supplemental electricity you draw from the grid is completely offset, you can instantly power up your contract. For just $9.99 a month, JustGreen can be added to your plan to purchase renewable energy credits from clean sources like wind, hydro, or biomass on your behalf. This simple upgrade allows you to support broader green energy infrastructure while maintaining the exact flexibility and fixed-rate security of your baseline solar plan.

Solar Advantage FAQs

No. Unused solar Buyback Credits do not have a set expiration date while you remain enrolled on this plan. Any unused credits are banked and automatically applied to future Energy Charges, up to a maximum accumulated credit balance of $500. If your contract term ends or you switch to a different Just Energy plan, you will stop earning new solar Buyback Credits. However, any previously banked credits will continue to be applied automatically to future monthly Energy Charges until they are fully used.

Please note that solar Buyback Credits can only be used to offset Energy Charges, have no cash value, are not redeemable for cash, and will be forfeited if you terminate your service with Just Energy.

Yes, unused solar credits automatically roll over to your next billing cycle. If your solar panels produce more excess energy than required to offset your monthly energy charges, the remaining credit balance banks automatically. This rolling bank can accumulate up to a maximum of $500 while you are enrolled on this plan, providing a reliable cushion to offset your electric bill during months with lower solar generation.

Solar power is growing exceptionally fast in Texas, making the state a leading hub for renewable energy in the United States. Thanks to vast amounts of sunshine, a deregulated energy market, and expanding grid infrastructure, thousands of Texas homeowners install solar panels every year. This massive growth helps support grid reliability during hot summer days and allows residential properties to play an active role in the state’s shifting energy landscape.

The Solar Advantage Plan offers long-term pricing security available in a 12-month fixed-rate term. These contract lengths allow you to lock in your energy charge for up to three years, protecting your household from seasonal spikes in wholesale electricity costs. Because these are fixed-term commitments, terminating your agreement before your chosen contract length is complete will result in an early exit fee of $375 per ESI ID.

While choosing a specific retail electricity plan does not trigger a tax break, the physical installation of your solar panels often qualifies you for significant incentives. Additionally, many Texas municipalities and local utility districts offer property tax exemptions or local rebates for adding renewable generation equipment to your home. We recommend consulting a qualified tax professional to evaluate your specific property’s eligibility.

No, enrolling in the Solar Advantage Plan does not automatically guarantee that you will receive a solar credit on your monthly statement. Bill credits are only generated and applied when your system exports surplus electricity back to the grid and that specific generation data is successfully reported to us by your local utility.
